• Have you ever wanted to look into a crevass?
• Have you ever wanted to jump over a crevasse?
• Have you ever wanted to walk with crampons?

 

If you have answered YES to any of these questions then a glacier trekking is exactly the right thing for you. You don’t need to be a professional climber or to have experience with crampons or ice axes but you must have the stamina to walk for 4 – 6 hours.

Programme:
1. Day: Arrival in Saas Fee – Cable car to Felskinn – ascent to Britannia hut, approx. 1 hour.
2. Day: Britannia hut – Allalinpass – Taesch hut, approx. 5 hours.
3. Day: Taesch hut – Taeschalp – Pfulwe – Fluhalp, approx. 5½ hours.
4. Day: Fluhalp – Riffelalp – Gornergrat train to Rotenboden – Monte Rosa Hut, approx. 6 hours.
5. Day: Monte Rosa Hut – Rotenboden – Riffelberg – Cable car to Furri – Cable car to Trockenersteg – Gandegghuette, approx. 5½ hours.
6. Day: Gandegghuette Trockenersteg – Cable car to Klein Matterhorn – Breithorn (4164 Meter / 13325ft) – Cable Car to Zermatt, approx. 5 hours.

Information:
In summer many glaciers are free of snow. For that reason the crevasses are visible and they are not dangerous anymore because they are not hidden. In summer the surface of the glaciers is rough which gives a nice grip to your boots to walk effortlessly and without crampons over the glacier. Very often rock goats, marmots and jackdaws can be seen on the way to the glacier. Besides crevasses, a middle moraine, creeks, glacier mills, glacier lakes and glacier tables can be found.

16. – 21. June / 23. – 28. June / 25. August – 30. August / 1. – 6. September 2024 or on request.

Fees:
CHF 1’850.00 per person.

Services:
Qualified mountain guide his expenses, accommodation in dormitories, breakfast and dinner without drinks.

Requirements:
Good health and fitness, stamina to walk for 4 – 6 hours.

The minimum number of hikers is 4. Prices and programme are subject to change.

You need the following equipment for Glacier Trekking:

Compulsory Equipment
Rucksack 20 – 30 litre – Mountaineering boots* – Climbing seat harness* – Crampons with front points, adjusted* – Telescopepole – Touring trousers – Waterproof / breathable jacket with hood – Fleece jacket or jumper – Gloves – Shirt – Socks – Warm hat – Sunglasses with side protection – Sunscreen factor >25 – Lip balm factor >15 – Flask or water bottle, about 1 Litre, no camel bag – Snack for 2 days (for day 2 picnic can be bought in the hut) – Personal medication.

Nice to have
Alpine club member card – Head torch or torch – Compeed, second skin, sport tape – Foam earplugs, sleeping pills (not strong ones) – Spare socks – Spare shirt – Spare underwear – Thermal underwear – Sun hat – Pocket knife – Camera (small and light) – Toothbrush and paste – Toilet paper – Insurance card – Credit card – Sleeping bag liner (cotton or silk) – Reduction card for tickets.

Items with a * can be rented.

Everything you bring with you, you have to carry it by yourself. Try to be as light as possible.
