Zermatt is well known for the Matterhorn and its four thousand metre high mountains. Besides mountaineering, Zermatt offers a large number of climbs on rock & ice with varying difficulties. Most of the climbs can be done in one day and have easy access thanks to trains and cable cars. With the huts around Zermatt, the easy access to glaciers and rocks, the large number of easy to difficult climbs makes Zermatt the ideal  base for learning the first mountaineering skills, to brush up forgotten techniques or for big climbs.
